Dear Oprah, I've heard about "Mr. Luna's Bright Idea" to give one Compact Fluorescent bulb (CFL) to every child in America. I've heard how this idea will save us billions of dollars in electric costs, and help stop global warming!!! I commend you for this idea and hope that even if it doesn't get on air it can be perpetuated through the lighting industry's public awareness, marketing or social action forums. They should love the prospect of having families change over their bulbs throughout their homes.

We desperatly need to Fix what we hav done to the enviorment if we screw up the earth we screw up the way we live and later hav to deal with the concequences ... this is going to be in our life time. and if we dont want to have to fix it later we're screwed this project will not only stop using fossile fules for electricity but will also stop global warming

Mr. Luna, I hope this works out for you. I'm doing as much as I can, and as soon as I get the chance, I will send this blog to my friends in Trinidad and England. I'm also going to try to make more photocopys of the sheets you gave me, and distribute them to places where friends/family work. I will also give some to my cousin in college, so he can spread the word about this brilliant idea. Who knows, maybe someday if this works out (which hopefully it does) it will be in history books or something along those lines!
I hope the best for this idea, and i told all of my family to buy the CFL's. Hopefully, they'll take it in to consideration.

I personally think that this is a great idea.I even mentioned it to my family and they're definatlly going to look into getting the compact light bulbs, they're even going to check out the solar pannels. They thought it was cool that you're so into this and that you care so much about the environment. I didn't read through the 79 comments before mine, so I don't know if this has already been suggested. But I recently read that solar roof tiles are available for housing. They look like regular roofs, but are solar panels. I think they should be adopted as "building code" for every new house built in America.
It's been my longstanding belief that every home should have a solar roof, a windmill, and a sewage treatment plant.

As a teacher, I try to educate my students about the advantages of fluorescent bulbs over incandescent. I have replaced several in my own home as well. Good luck in this worthwhile endeavor!

sending support from Canada; congratulations on a great approach for raising awareness, not just reaching America, but also people watching Oprah in Canada and elsewhere!
I just did this about 2 months ago in my apartment and switched all the bulbs that I could and have decreased my electric bill from $60/month to $25/month. I about shit when I got the bill. What you should do is buy something called the kill-o-watt that measures wattage consumption and test the 2 and actually show how much of a difference they can make.
The thing is that people just don't realize this for some reason- So my students and I are hoping that this endeavor helps them to realize what a positive thing this is! -kenny
